I have to remove some of the exhaust heat shields in order to replace the offside rear brake pipe. Do the fixings unscrew, or are they pushed onto the studs? They appear to be in good condition, so I would prefer not to destroy them!

Well, I successfully removed the tank, as I have to do some welding and grinding in that area. Not too bad a job apart from undoing the hose clips on the filler and breather hoses. It would appear that I have been lucky, in that the the tank is still serviceable - just! Whereas the underside...

I’ve just investigated the switch on my own Puma, as I have the same problems as you. The switch is a very snug fit in the slam panel, but you should be able to wiggle it upwards and out using a small flat screwdriver. There are two small metal clips which fit into grooves on the switch body...

The gasket that I bought was around 10mm too short, and wouldn’t stay in it’s groove. I tried sticking it with Hylomar, leaving it to cure overnight with masking tape holding it in place before fitting it to the engine, but it obviously didn’t work. £23 down the drain!
