I got a puma yesterday, few little probs but nothing too bad. The thing is the remote on the key doesn't work. This wasn't a problem as i just used the key to open the doors manually, then one of my friends said the batteries were probably flat so he took the key apart to look at it. The batteries were ok but the key still wasn't working. He tested the cicuit board with his meter and said that it needed a new diode or something which he then snapped off with a pair of pliers :x . now when i unlock the car the alarm goes off so i have had to remove the fuse :-( . Any advise please?

get a key off ebay and reprogramme it using the manual

does the car start because usually the alarm works with the immobiliser so if the immobiliser is off allowing you to start the car could just be a problem with the alarm

im no expert though

ive used the key loads without the alarm going off on mine and the immobiliser deactivates

It starts ok ,its just the alarm. It was not happening before he messed around with it.
I can't seem to find a 2 button key anywhere.

It sounds like your mate has bugged up the communication between the key and the alarm. I don't know if Simpson would be able to do you another key, as they read the original to program the new one. It might be that you'll have to go to a Ford garage and get a new one. Expect to pay around £80, if not more for a new one.

If that's what you end up having to do, get your mate to pay at least some of the costs.

They're 3 button, not 2. And he's still going to need someone to program it.

Without knowing what damage has been done to the key, it's probably your best bet unfortunately.

Thanks for your advice Cherie,at least i know what i need to do(kick my mate in the b*****ks  ).But seriously,i wouldn't mind getting a new key and 80 quids not the end of the world.

Just managed to purchase a 2 button fob from that auction site. Is it correct that if i program it to my puma it will work and i can re-activate my alarm?

I'm sure it tells u how to programme it in your manual something about turning the key so many times in ten seconds I think

There are two types of key programming, one to operate the central locking (which will operate the alarm as well), the other to operate the transponder to start the engine.

Ford Key Types:

the alarm is not broke lock and unlock the car twice on both doors make sure when you take the key out, the key is central hey presto they will work normal.

The micro switch is slightly worn.
