build one and stick it in the boot/under your seat and hook it up to a pop out screen.
youll get a far more powerful computer for your money + i think the hole is something daft like 1.8din or something.

I'd invest in a bloody good alarm after installing that lot!

good idea and would be very usefull to fit a pc but it would be easier to buy a notebook approx £200 and mount it to your dash with velcro

with normal satnav/dvd sytems is it possible to connect iphone and view stuff via satnav/dvd screen?

Yeap good point there:)

Thanks I will check them out.
Yeap the components must be special designed for cars.

Heat/cold
Vibration
shock
voltage dropping
small
fast booting time.

I will try to get a list of parts.

Id like a nice automonous hidden car pc which i can put several cameras and datalogging to as a recording system. I remember we used to have some really cool micro PC's onboard ship for machinery control. About half DIN sized. No screen or nothing as you just plug one in when needed.

you should be able to build a very small one if you use a miniITX or picoITX format although it won't be mega fast :)

Very small I like it, see they sell some carpc kits too.

Yeap.
but having a pc with XP gives you so many cool extra updates.
Like add a cool driving computer software. Mic voice commands. and so on.
But you get a lot for the money by just adding a DVD,sat system.

although it would be a fair bit more money a SSD (solid state drive) would handle the vibrations from the car much better. All depends on your budget though as they aint cheap if you want a lot of storage

Good point mort666,
I edit my list and updated with a SSD as you recommended.
I chose Kingston 64GB its up for 139dollar on ebay.

thats over 500 quid im sure you can just buy one for less or the same price with a working guarantee.

A car pc with the same speck cost 700-800 build by the fabric, 200-300 its alot I think, most parts comes with 2 years warranty anyway. But I will be looking for alternative cuts if possible. Gonna update my list. Hope to go under 500 thats a great price since I dont have a gps before.

Here is a similar one but here they have used a normal hardriver not SSD.
