I had my MOT yesterday, the exhaust backbox came up as an advisory but the tester said I should get it change asap. Just as a temporary fix and a bit of fun I was thinking of bodging a cherry bomb back box on there. I need to get the cambelt changed, new wheels and tyres and a couple other things, it'll be a temporary fix for a couple of months until I can afford the full system. My question is, what size is the pipe it would attached to? I'm thinking it's about 50mm?

Just been looking on ebay and.found a universal backbox with fitting kit, has anyone got any expriences with these?

Hi there, i have just brought a sportex back box for my puma, sounds and looks great, its a direct fit, with no messing about buying universal hangers and extra piping to get it to fit. I looked at the cherry bomb myself, but it looked to much of a hassle to get it to fit, only took me 45 mins to take my old rusty box off and fit the sportex

Yeah, I was gonna get the sportex backbox with a race pipe but I wanna gonna go cheap so I could save for a good stainless system. I wouldn't be fitting it myself, don't have the tools or anywhere to do it, the wife won't let me work on cars on the drive

Yeah thought about getting race pipe, but read that it wouldn't pass mot with it fitted, so just brought the back box. I had a cherry bomb fitted on pug 1.9 gti some years ago, it sounded lovely, we drove around all day listening to it (sad really i know), if you ain't got the tools that's OK, as its best to get the cherry bomb fitted at a garage, as it saves messing about with it, universal fits can be a pain in the ass. Good luck mate have to post some pics when fitted.

Had a twin Cherry Bomb system on my '57 Buick Special with a 364cu in V8, (nearly 6 litres), cheap and easy to fit.

Oh, and it was bloody loud!!

I've never heard of a race pip failing an MOT? Can anyone clarify?

I know it's not the same but I replaced my old mini's exhaust with a straight through exhaust and it was loud but still passed the MOT.

I might be wrong, as the seller said it would fail MOT with it fitted, his information could be incorrect, i just brought back box in the end, middle section ok for the moment :?: :?: :?:

i used to own a 2.8i capri with twin straight through exhaust system ending in a pair of cherry bombs, it used to sound like a thunderstorm rolling down the road and never failed an mot on its exhaust system. after that i had a mk5 escort and fitted a cherry bomb back box on that, again never failed an mot but did get pulled over by the police once and the copper said it was an illegal back box and gave me a ticket to get stamped at an mot station to prove that it was ok. drove to the mot station and the tester said the exhaust wasn't blowing of leaking anywhere so it wasn't a problem and stamped the ticket.

cherry bomb's are an illegal exhaust, but should always be used :D to show it is an illegal system it is powder coated red but a simple way around this is to simply get heat proof paint from halfords ect about 7 quid a tin and just spray it, sorry but im not sure on the exhaust size but thought the spray idea may be handy, i only know this as me and the misus are buyin one next month for our puma
