Double Din Conundrums

Bit of weird one, the car came with a double DIN head unit with the dash cut around 8mm above the radio factory location. Doesn't have a cage/housing but basically an interference fit.

It is angled slightly up due to no cage etc, so I got a double DIN housing/bracket but it is nowhere near small enough to fit in the hole.

Has anyone tried taking any plastic off the heater control panel to get a double DIN bracket to fit?

Also the current setup is 16-17CM deep, and looking at Kenwood DMX7722DABS head units the new ones are super slim which may help me.

My worry is I go and buy the Kenwood and then it won't fit.

I am fitting double din, I removed plastic underneath clock, it is tight, very tight, have left about 1-2mm under clock...At the heater I removed screws for clearance and tie wrapped. You need good basic hand skills in engineering to make it work.

Bit of progress on this, how I got it first:-



Trial fitting the 103mm Autoleads Bracket and Kenwood head unit:-




Working out best way to fit bezel, also spotted some cables I am going to solder later today.

Also testing a DAB/FM Splitter to see if will work, (I don't really listen to radio, so as long as gets the big stations)

Thats it fitted for now, I am having a friend 3D print a bezel for me to get a better fit, but overall happy.
