ECU blown up :-( help please

hello everyone

quick history; ford alarm played up, fitted a Clifford (problems!!). took car off the road for a year to rebuild engine etc, battery died a few times....car wont start

checked the Clifford over properly and seems to be working ok (still got problems and want to remove)

ecu says theirs a key code issue, had them recoded, ecu not registering any problems

but car wont start...it cranks, can hear fuel but no spark. latest idea is that the ecun immobiliser software has locked down.

found an ecu specialist; he cant fix it! doesn't look like ford can fix it but there getting back to me



option 1; ebay puma ecu / key/ barrel / reader to get it running and have the frp map swapped later......anyone done this? any tips? how do I know which ecu I have? is there a code on it?

option 2; I hate the electronics...rip them out! omex ecu etc, fia kill switch 'immobiliser', ditch the Clifford and have all the locks rebuilt so I can actually get into it! anyone done this for trackdays etc? any tips?

option 3; strip it for parts, sell, buy a lancia stratos kit car....!

Swapping ECU is easy. Only need the ECU and the transponder bit out of the key.
Disconnect battery, swap ECU, swap transponder bit in key, reconnect battery and start her up.
That's all I did when i swapped my MUFF for a TAPE.

Also I believe you'll want a tape ecu

Jacko, i messaged you on FB, i have everything you need i have a Tape ECU, transponder, key pick-up ring. Borrow them, and see if it solves your issues. I have a standard TAPE and an FRP tape.

oi, sam, get in line for that frp tape ecu!!!!

ian g is sending me a muff (ooer!) ecu to try and im swapping the locks out (half of them don't work!)

also getting a new coil pack (in case that's what fried it!) and sparks and leads while im at it

maps; whats the best? (the muff is std 1.7) so upgrade to frp? frp AND dreamscience etc, pumaspeeds 'better than frp' map?

Lol, i have an original FRP ECU, a Pumaspeed Tape Mapped ECU, and a stock TAPE. (yes im a bit of a hoarder), i have complete lock sets with keys, complete looms, loads of the older bayonett style coils. I owe you a favour pal from those gear linkages you gave me (the mondeo ones that are now fitted to my puma), so let me know if you still need anything after you get your delivery from Ian, and well sort something out.

Sam, i dont think ill sell the FRP original ECU, i want to keep it with my FRP engine and gearbox. But i will be selling the FRP maped Pumaspeed TAPE ECU at some point.

at mo im waiting for ian's muff (ecu!) to arrive. then fit, ordered brand new coil pack, leads, sparks and will fit....see what happens!!!

if all goes well im thinking of the pumaspeed 'better than frp' map and swap the locks etc and maybe tidy up some wiring
