Gear box sticking

Today was the first time that this has happened, I was driving to my sisters and noticed that the gear box didn't want to change from 2nd to 3rd or 4th and vice verca, it did eventually but was very stiff, when I got back in the car later the problem had gone but was just wandering if this is an early sign of the gear box going fubar?

It's most likely to be the linkage from your gearstick to your gearbox:

If it's not that and it's actually the gearbox, then it'll probably need a strip down to clear the crud out of it:

i reckon its the linkage, probably needs greasing in the box underneath the car where the gear stick actually sits or at the gearbox end the 'universal (haha! its crap!) linkage' is getting worn /had some crap in it.

if its the gearbox they itd be very lucky if its just some rubbish gunk in there....get a garage to drain & replace the oil to flush it out over a month or so
but if it carries on id say its the selector mechanisms inside the gearbox....in that case its cheaper to get a 2nd hand box and have it replaced for free when you get the clutch done (as the gearbox has to come off anyway)
