Hi guys n girls, Im Lewis. Im a newbie here, had my puma "Pete" since the end of August last year! Bought initially as a breaker for £200, but as my other car needed a rebuild n the puma looked a lil too good to break so i took it for MOT and it sailed through!! WAHEY! Hes a keeper! For now its a rather tatty looking 99 1.7, but plans are in order for that to change!

After briefly owning an #* ZS180, i liked the V6 grunt but always felt my sister's puma "Pedro" out-handled it anywhere. Then along came the idea of; "I wonder how a 2.5V6 puma would go????"
So; Ive aquired myself an ST24 ready to break, my 1.7 lump will be put in my mates zetec-s in return for sorting the body/paintwork. An in the next couple of weeks i will be posting up pics etc of its progress! Might turn it into a "How to" guide if theres enough interest!?! Itl have full mondeo discs all round, and a few of the mondeo toys that mine doesnt have.

Looking forward to seeing this, good luck :eek:k:

will the heavier engine not upset the balance of the car?

I don't think it'll fit

I'm happy to be proven wrong though!

Welcome

half the reason the puma handles well is because of nice weight distrubtion and generally being a fairly lightweight car, im not sure putting that engine in will do it any favours at all

Welcome to the site!

I love it when people try something different and I look forward to seeing the results!

Hi should be interesting!!

Welcome
A big Hammer will sort it... if not, get a bigger one!

If in doubt, get the welder out! Lol
I have taken the weight of the engine and box into consideration, an will actually make a comparison of the 2. However, i cant see it weighing much more than a 2.0 zetec due to the v6 being alloy blocked. But i agree it will be heavier, guess im gonna have to get some coilovers and play with the corner weights somewhat to redistribute the weight a lil. Done some preliminary measurements the other day, and the mounts are in the same places. Still gonna be a squeeze though.

After some looking around, someone on the fiestaturbo forum has squeezed one in a mk3, so itl fit in a puma then!
Im not saying itl be easy, but its doable!

Is that the cossie 4x4 one? I read the thread on that! Epic!! Thinking of doing something similar to my escort eventually...... Lol really wanna finish my projects off in time for Ford Fair if pos.

Hi Lewis, Welcome to ProjP :eek:k:

You seem to know what you're talking about - seems like a very interesting project! Keep us updated and good luck with the squeeze

Could be worse

Hello and welcome to the forum! Sounds interesting your V6 Puma idea! Sounds like you've got the majority of the bits sorted already?! If you do make a go of it, keep us posted with regular updates and plenty of photos!

Nice to hear of  another Puma being saved, as opposed to being killed and stripped!

Hi guys, ive started the thread Project Pete ST24 V6, no pics yet as ive not sussed that part yet, however thers a few pics of Pete in current form in my gallery......

Time for an update, so far whilst awaiting VIC test for Pete, ive flat n polished the headlamps, converted airbox to FRP spec (im doing a run of these so if anyones interested, PM me). Ive just received the polybushes for the rear beam as whilst removing the beam brackets for some modifications, i realised the original bushes had fallen apart!
As for rear beam mods, im currently preparing it to convert to independent rear suspension. Ive modified the brackets to accept the main cross-beam, then itl be a case of getting busy with the welder!

Other news on work in progress is of the aquiring of a rear subframe setup from an escort RS2000 4x4, i plan on installing this after fitting the V6. Meanwhile it is stripped down while I recon all the components.

So, 1 1999 ST24 breaking! Puma about to be thoroughly abused.

Things on my wish list: millenium seats front and rear.
Escort GTi gearbox and starter (for one of my other projects)
Someone to explain to me how to upload pics on here via iphone! Or else i may create a facebook page for pete!
