Hi folks, I need a bit of advice and explanation please. I have already searched a few times on this forum, but I was left quite confused by what I found.

My backpack was stolen off a train last week, and along with my passport and laptop, they also got away with my keys. My Puma is a 2001 with the RF three button remote (or, it was). I still have the spare key, which opens and starts the car. How do I get a replacement remote key? Ideally without paying Ford massive amount of money.

I see that you can get blank remote keys on Ebay, but I'm guessing that the process is not as simple as having it cut, sticking it in the ignition and doing the reprogramming process.

Cheers,
Huw

Go to somewhere like Timpsons - if you've a key that'll start the car, they can programme another (remote or not) that will also start the car.
If you have two keys that will start the car, you can programme a third (after being cut for the locks - not necessarily coded) to start it yourself using the guides on here.

Last time I went - quite a few years ago - it was about £30 for a std key and £70 for a remote one.

Is it that simple? Fantastic! But will this also make the remote central locking work, or is that a different process?

You need a place with a coding machine to allow the immobilizer to recognize the key (PATS system) and start the car.

To programme the central locking with a remote key (which a new key won't do)- follow one of the guides - depending on what key you have:

I believe if you get a key copied at somewhere like Timpsons, the new key will only be a 'clone' of the key being copied therefore being an EXACT replica.
I may be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure that to program another key to start the car, the two existing keys should actually be 'different' and cannot be 'clones' of each other.

If I am wrong, then I appologize in advance!
