As part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations Lola stage a public celebration in its hometown Huntingdon when racing cars will parade on the streets of Huntingdon for the first time.

A selection of famous Lola racing cars will set off from Lola’s headquarters in Huntingdon and travel through a designated route via the local ring road finishing with the cars forming a spectacular paddock in Huntingdon’s historic market square. Adding to the occasion, Lola will host a public ‘Q & A’ session in the market square, featuring Lola Chairman Martin Birrane, the Mayor of Huntingdon, and an array of current and former drivers that have raced under the yellow and blue colours of Lola.

The parade starts at 12 noon so we'll meet with anyone that wants to come at staples up the road (where we met for the pre Fiesta in the Park show in May) at 10.30am.

This sounds awesome. I will definitely be up for it!

Infact if anyone wants to come but maybe put off by the drive in the morning I may have some floor space going spare the night before.. pending approval from joint owner. I'd be more than happy to put a couple of people up.

As will we. We've a couple of spare beds and plenty of sofa / floor space.

:eek:k:

Town center will be packed.. wonder where the best place to park up would be.

I'm guessing to get there about 11 and park next to the river in the free one on the east of the ring road, or in Hartford somewhere and walk down if the traffic gets to thick. (Not Oxmoor though)

THE only man ever to have won both the World Motorcycling Championship and the Formula 1 Championship will be driving his old Lola racing car on the streets of Huntingdon next month.

John Surtees, now in his 70s, won the 500cc World Championship in 1956, and between 1958 and 1960 he became the first man to win the Senior TT and the Isle of Man TT three years in succession.

In 1960 he switched to cars full time and was F1 Champion for Ferrari in 1964. The following year he was driving for the official works Lola team, driving the T70 car that he will pilot in the parade on Sunday, October 12, to mark the 50th anniversary of the St Peter's Road, Huntingdon-based sports car manufacturer.

Lola intends to have around a dozen cars in the parade from St Peter's Road, round the town's ring road to a paddock in the market square, where there will be a total of 20 models for the public to admire.

The route will be closed for about 10 minutes as the racers pass by between midday and 12.10pm. After the machines have been allowed to cool, the public will have access to them from 12.30 until 4pm.

A poignant last sentence in the newspaper article though :(

Indeed. As said he was very ill :(

You still going?

Amazingly this day is still free on my work Calendar!

Cherie and I will be there regardless of if anyone else wants to go :D

would love to be there, but sadly it's the day after my sister's wedding up in Durham so i don't think it would be a possibility :(

hope you have a great day out though.

Cheers Paul - shame you can't make it. They'll be loads of photos posted though after ;)

We'll be meeting there and leaving at about 10.30am to make sure we get a good spot to see them on the streets at noon, then walk round to the town centre square where they'll be out for us to gawp over.

Be good to see you there!

Anymore wanting to come? Still meeting at about 10.30 in the Staples car park in Huntingdon.

:D

Did you manage to get Vortex and his fat arsed puma to come along?
