http://www.autosave-scotland.co.uk/product/Mutant_MT2001USBi_7239_0_142_0.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

or this

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_732205_langId_-1_categoryId_165474" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

to my Puma.

Is this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-PUMA-FOCUS-STEREO-FACIA-FASCIA-AND-ISO-HARNESS_W0QQitemZ130317935205QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_FasciaPlates_SM?hash=item1e578de265" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

all I would need to get either one wired up? fascia and iso harness adaptor?

or any other high street recommendations?

Mutant are crap. Had one (as a present) and it just stopped putting out any sound after a few months.

Stick with the bigger names to get a decent long lasting stereo, I've had Sony and Kenwood, and never had any problems with them.

I've got exactly the same fasica adaptor too, very handy if you're planning on attaching an iPod via a front mounted USB port as it should just slide straight in. Be careful what you store in there though, as it's very difficult to get to the back of the slot as it's very narrow!

Unless you're planning on installing an amp too, the ISO adaptor should be all you need.

Nice one Cherie, appreciate it, I'll go with the Sony. Was thinking of just using a usb stick instead of the ipod.

I've just bought a Sony one as my old Panasonic has finally given up the ghost. It's an 8 year old model and I got it with the car so it's not done too bad.

Just bought this one as I need 3 pre-outs:

Is your old stereo knackered or do you just fancy an upgrade? Just wondered because I use my phone which has a built in fm transmitter to play all my tunes on. Old stereo shows name of artist and song being played.Sounds pretty good as well.

Can anyone recommend a silver headunit with usb input that is less than £80? I would like the Sony in the link above I posted but if anyone knows of a silver unit of the same quality then let me know.

cheers

you will struggle for less than £80

you might find a good cheap silver one with usb but sometimes its better to buy a good brand like sony,alpine or kenwood

also get a silver fascia they are about £5

Thanks for that pumakid, I'm gonna go for the Halfords Sony, got a silver fascia coming from ebay in a few days.

ok, got the Sony with wiring connectors and an aftermarket fascia with ISO harness.

There are 2 sets of wires that come from the car that end in connectors. I put the set of wires with the yellow wire etc that ends in the black connector (as seen on the left in the pic) into the connector supplied with the stereo and connected the other end of this stereo supplied wiring to the ISO harness and plugged that into the unit. No response when I turn the ignition. I can't see any other way to rig these connectors up so what have I done wrong?

You have mixed up the connectors going to the car loom. You have connected the ISO loom power connector to the cars speaker connector.

The car connector that is shown connected in the pic to a black plug should be connected to the brown plug, both of these should have 8 wires coming out of them. The loose wire in the pic, in the top right, should be connected to the black plug.

Hope that helps!

Sorted, flash to the rescue again!

Stereo is pretty good, usb works really well

thanks Flash

get some pics of how it looks up also was your fascia silver or sort of grey colour i got mine off ebay and it was rather grey but ive sprayed it with moondust silver paint today to properly match centre console now looking good i might do the door handles covers to

The "silver" fascia adaptors are actually much closer to the grey used in the Z-S.

The best silver apparently is Halfords Platinum Silver, pics in my project thread.

Its too embarassing to show the crappy install I did, the silver fascia is more metallic grey than silver.

Thats the problem with thos wiring loom adapters.... you end up with tons of cable and numerous bulky connectors that all end up being stuffed behind the radio..... when you've got phono's aswell and other bits the whole area looks like a junk yard...

The final solution to my Sony system was to....

glue the radio cage to the facia adapter...
bond that (not permanantly) onto the dash hole
cut down the top of the cage about an inch thick so the sliding arm on the back of the radio could still connect up to the rail without removing the cage/iso assembly
chop off ALL connectors and wire up necessary wires to the new radio loom using crimp connectors... (looks MUCH neater at the back)...effectively turning your ford loom into a Sony one specific to your radio..... bloody time consuming, but well worth it :idea: :cool:

No squeaks, creaks or rattles anymore behind the unit, and the radio sits VERY still...

has only taken 8 years of yearly tweaking...but got there in the end... :lol: :lol:
