I have this too and I assume its because my HCV is disconnected and not the engine overheating. Putting a new HCV in on the weekend I'll let you know if it fixes the gauge.

Does your heater work on hot and cold? if not you may have the same problem I have.

the heater works well just the temp gauge is stuck on hot all the time its a pain

plus at moment done me hand in and can,t have a good look at it
