I'd be tempted to remove it from your list judging from my early experiences...

So the garage managed to find an air leak in the metered air side. They sealed the leak which knocked out one of the fault codes, but the Electronic Throttle management still has a 'communication error'. They are now talking about a new ETM at £400 + VAT +fitting and it apparently has to be done at a Volvo garage (my internet searching suggests this is not the case). This has got expensive very quickly....

I've got it back for the weekend at least to do some tidying up but it'll need to go back in during the week.

On the plus side, I gave it some serious stick away from a junction on the way home and by Christ is it swift. I did actually giggle. God knows what the V70R's are like with an extra 90BHP!

Well to distract myself from the pain of current expenses, I decided to have a quick go with the Meguires APC and attack the manky cabin. I diluted it to 10:1 and set to the leather seats with a fairly stiff scrubbing brush.

You know when you see those product claims where they show something half-cleaned and half not and you never actually achieve the results they show in real life? Well, this is one of the few times I have achieved it. The driver's seat was a mess and looked pretty ruined. The lady who owned it clearly had a love for new jeans so not only were the seats dirty, they were stained blue.

So, a scrub-up;

Unbelievable result!

Then it started peeing it down so I've had to stop for the day.

I had also previously done the mats;

Which have come up well.

But there's a lot left to do! The carpets are grim;

And there's a lot of leather in there. It could take a while!

Finished cleaning up the interior today - it's now looking far more habitable!

This afternoon, I decided to bite the bullet and have a crack with the headlight polishing kit. Not a bad kit as it turns out, but it's terrifying to do!

Started with this;

And ended up with this;

The photo flatters it a little bit, but it's a huge improvement. I think if you had more time/patience, you could get them back to A1 again, but this'll do me for now!

Well, some fiddling around with the connector to the MAF seems to have sorted the lumpy idle and it's been well-behaved for the last three days. I got it back from the garage with 21mpg showing on the computer - God only knows what they were doing with it to achieve such a drop. I've coaxed it back up to 23.3mpg.

The big problem is that I'm not sure I like it all that much. It still has a while to turn me around before I flog it on though.

And it's gone. Just couldn't like it - it lumbered around compared to the decently handling Subaru and the steering lock was a joke. It didn't matter how carefully you lined it up, getting in a parking bay at the supermarket took several attempts.

Other than the engine, I couldn't find anything else to enjoy in it.

Meanwhile, my old Forester got some TLC at our local specialist and is back to its old self. So glad I didn't sell it on!

Nice car, 2.5T is frowned upon by many in Volvodom as the worst of everything as poor MPG for Power. The T5 2.4 will give 100+ BHP more for similar MPG and D5 has better MPG and off the line far better acceleration.

There are plenty of Volvo Forums around. I Mod T5D5.org, nearly all genuine parts are expensive but if you want any genuine parts
http://forums.t5d5.org/topic/293-frf-motors-mail-order-genuine-parts/ Simon is now management, so it's not him on phone, but you are very unlikely to get genuine parts cheaper even when you factor in postage (which the work out the cheapest possible way to send)

http://partsforvolvosonline.com/ are also good supplier of parts BUT be wary of anything Scantech if it bearings or moving mechanical parts as they are very very very cheap quality.

Always worth asking around for someone with VIDA and DICE, I have as do many others and is the Volvo community and is invaluable for diagnosing faults etc as has full dealer capabilities with the exception of software downloads/updates.

the Slushbox can be the death of car, gearbox oil flush can cure many issues but it's an expensive experiment as it takes 12 litres of genuine Volvo fluid at about 10 quid a litre. Steering racks do tend to be a weakness and guess much is down to crap turning circle and so lots of static and low speed maneuvers putting high loads on rack, coupled with not using correct fluid for rack (Like most volvos they are very fussy about correct fluids)

I've currently got 2 S60 D5s that are 2005 MY (about best year for the any Volvo P2 as Ford did masses of cost cutting that year on the S40/V50 and didn't start the bean counting in earnest till the 2006 MY)

Many seem to love them but I couldn't find much other than the rather nice engine. Shame as I wanted to like it but just glad it's gone to be honest. Seems like the new owners are enjoying it at least!
