Hey everyone,
After lusting after one for years I recently bought a 98' 1.7 Puma in red. I love it. To make it absolutely perfect I want to change and fix a few things. I'm thinking a new air filter and better exhaust to begin with. I also need to change the fuse for the odometer as the backlight doesn't work.

Can anyone guide this newbie in the direction of a good place to pick up Puma parts?

Hey there, and welcome to Project Puma,

I personally live on a small island called Jersey in the Channel Islands (down near France). So as you can imagine getting any parts down for such an exclusive car is a pain.
However, the best thing about the Puma is that it is so similar to the fiesta, and the 1.6 zetec engine has many identical parts as the puma's 1.7.
My advice would be to get a price-up from your local ford dealer, which is likely to be very expensive, however once you have the part numbers you can go to other local firms and ask what they can get you the parts down for. For example, the recent cam kit I was quoted in the region of £150 (wow, a little excessive considering labour wasn't included). So I went to a local parts dealer and picked one up (which they had in stock!) for just £46!!

If this isn't possible then I would suggest spending some time looking around on the web, on amazon, or ebay, and see if there are any reasonable condition parts for sale.

However, if you do have the money to spend, I would suggest going to your Ford dealer and getting any work done professionally.

To your personal requests, to find a new air filter (I guess it is just the sponge filter you are looking for), you should be able to find one online, to my knowledge, the 1.6 version should fit fine but be sure to check with the seller before you buy.

Better exhaust, this I am less the person to ask, maybe a more dedicated website would be more appropriate and I'm sure somebody on here will have an answer for you, try making a thread dedicated to getting hold of a new exhaust system to see if you get anywhere.

Lastly about the fuse, the handbook should tell you exactly which fuse which is at fault, but any local hardware/electrical store will sell fuses at low prices, not likely to be any more than a couple of quid!

Good luck!
