Starting problem

2001, 1.7. Been experiencing some problems on my 3 most recent start ups.

Yesterday morning: on first turn it felt like the battery was dead, but sprung into life on the second attempt.

Last night: Same thing, except I noticed the speedo and tacho dials going haywire. Engine started on 2nd/3rd attempt, and the dials went back to normal, but I think the trip meter zeroed.

This morning: Same thing again, except there was a pronounced clicking noise coming from the engine, until it started, again on about the 3rd attempt.

Speedo and Tacho sweep usually points to knackered battery.

Check battery connections first as some of those symptoms make me suspect that as a possible before giving up on the current battery.

I may have left the interior light on, over-night, the evening before this problem started. I've only driven a few short 2-3 mile trips since. Maybe a longer trip will fix or put it on the trickle charger over-night.

I would suggest charging it properly with a charger.
