hi all,

I'm in the process of putting on some wheel spacers on the Puma as the Escort wheels are only ET41. I was advised by my brother it may be easier to convert to studs and nuts as i will likely be changing wheels over for track time etc. Though when we had a look the other day while checking if some old Ferodo pads would fit he remembered later in the day it looks like they are on studs already? Is this right? also does anyone know if the "studs" are splined or just a regular threaded affair?

Thanks in advance!

The Puma is already studs, you may just require longer ones. If you do, to fit them you will have to take the front hub apart because the abs ring sits behind the stud and you cant get them out without removing the ring. This will require new front bearings to be fitted because you cant take the flange out to get the ring out without destroying the bearing.
The studs are splined and readily available http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Wheel-Studs-to-fit-Ford-Puma-Cougar-various-lengths_W0QQitemZ260408948602QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Wheels_tyres_Trim_Nuts_ET?hash=item3ca195377a" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Ah, thanks for that :)

I was sort of afraid that would be the answer. All this for 10mm wheel spacers lol. Looks like i got some work to do :p

I would be cautious about a 10mm spacer, this will mean that you effectively loose the spigot ring, meaning that the studs must support the weight if the vehicle, and meaning that the wheel is more prone to poor location and therefore vibration.

the spacers i got have a spigot machined in. they're the FK spacers sort of like this but obv. only 4 stud:

Nice, didn't think there was enough material in a 10mm to keep the spigot, good find.

How much, if you don't mind my asking?

I got them from Venom motorsport i think it was about 60-70quid all in. They do look very well machined and of good quality metal so i'm happy :)

Excellent, well done.

Just had a look, Venom do a 5mm spacer (to give a total track increase of 10mm), these won't have a lip on them. They also do a 15mm spacer, which is what I have. These do have a lip on them. At £84.15+P&P they are a touch cheaper than when I got mine.

Yeah, i've of course gone for the 20mm so +10mm per wheel to bring the offset out to 31 to get it somewhat closer to the original props.

A little pricey especially with studs and nuts thrown in too but hopefully it will stop the back end from stepping out at speed!

But they don't show a 20mm on their website?

If it is just the back you are worried about then just use a beam spacer.

Found them here:

In the options box there is 20mm (A) £34 a pair.

Might as well try and restore the pumas original handling i thought :)
