Hi folks, I'm Alex. Iv had a few fords in the past mondies, escort, 5 V6 cougars so I'm no stranger to the marque, I just got rid of a mk2 1.8 Zetec Mondeo, and although it served a purpose it was very dull indeed. So I decided to get something smaller, slightly better on fuel and just more fun really! After not very long at all I decided on a 1.7 puma.... Today I went and looked at a couple. Nice looking red one. Never having driven one before I was unsure of what to expect, but guessed they should be pretty nippy, I had a 1.4 tigra that felt nippy so thought be more nippy than than, anyway afte checking out body work etc I took it for a test drive and WOW... It was slow as hell, hesitating, something was just not right, so I walks away and continued my 30mile home journey. Soon as I got home I spotted another that I thought of go and look at, not so far away this time though.... Had a look around, wasn't perfect, few bits crudely touched up here and there but with a budget of £600 I expected it. So I decide to take it on a quick test drive, WOW .... Now this one worked!! Amazing throttle responce, felt solid on the road, didn't really want to test its limits on a test drive but it felt very nippy indeed.... Leaky rocker cover is all I could find wrong from my excited inspection, but 83k full service history. Tax till sept, mot till may, lenso 16" alloys Invoice for cam belt done last year I thought I'd take my chances.... So the log book is
Signed £600 forked over (knocked down from £750) and off I went. Filled her up with petrol but noticed it sometimes stalls on idle randomly so new icv to go in soon. Decided to see what she could do after filling her up and again... WOW, I am so chuffed with this little car, it's like a go kart and is certainly no slouch at all! Got it home and inspected further, noticed the heating is stuck on cold so HCV is on order but also that the passenger foot well and behind the passenger seat is very moist indeed, heard about this bulkhead seal and with the heaters not working I guess it's just run amok so hopefully nothing major there. But apart from that I am certainly a very proud new owner (although a little cautious of the stereo typical hair dresser image, but I don't care! :D ) ..... Hope to speak to you all soon and attend some meets if you have them! Pics up soon (it's blurple :D)

End rant.

Thanks for the welcomes :)

Welcome along, the Puma is so much better than the Cougar

I would agree in some aspects! But you can't beat the sound of the V6 with an s/s cat back on!

Some pictures as promised...

And thats that! Seriously need to sort out the cloudy looking headlights, do you sand the outside or inside of the lens? :D

p.s. no idea why the pics have changed rotation! :/

Wet & dry the outside then use T cut to polish. Did mine a while ago. A bit of elbow grease and sweat but well worth the result.

got to agree with that, used to have a 2.8 v6 capri with straight through pipes to a pair of cherry bomb back boxes. it used to sound like a thunderstorm rolling down the road :D

Thanks mate, reckon 1200 then t-cut, then megs ultimate prewax polish should do?

Just fitted new HCV and its now toasty inside :D

Welcome, looks good, love the alloys. good looking tyres as well.

Had a ST24 with full cat back miltek system, awesome performance and sound, loved it to bits.

But have to say, Puma is so much fun

Thanks! Eagle F1's they're quite sticky, but the road noise is terrible! Yea basically same engine, but puma feels much more lively and full of character!

Great looking car in that colour and with those wheels. Sounds like a good 'un!

I think the wheels and tyres are worth as much as the car itself! ha

Is it usual for the car strangle early in the revs in first gear? redlines with ease in 2nd gear.

Hi and welcome. Car looks a steal at that price !

The bodywork isn't great tbh hence the price, but I think a proper full on polish would cure 80% of it, its had alot of (shoddy) DIY bits sprayed here and there but hopefully be able to sand it down and polish it back up to some degree.

Been perusing the site for the past couple of hours and I'v been having a drool over the thought of a DIY turbo conversion for a relatively good price! I think after some suspension and brake work it could be something I could start to dream about ha.

Hello mate and welcome. I agree with the above comments, it looks good in that colour with those wheels on!

As for feeling strangled in 1st gear, that could be down to the torque limiter maybe? Have a search on here for it, there are loads of posts about it.

Thanks for all the welcomes :) Everyone seems to like the wheels, not sure whether to play with the colour or not, go for a gun metal with polished lip or something.

Yes, apparently it is the torque limiter.. was a tad worried for a few miles drive!

If my heater works on 1,3,4 would that be the switch itself of the resistor pack would anyone know?

My old ST200 sounded nice on full chat too.
