Eleanor is up for auction!

What idiot wrote that article? Obviously no one that knows anything about Mustangs. A SHELBY GT500 is NOT a Mach 1 which is a totally different car, (also not available until the '69 model year!)
It also states that Eleanor had a 5.7 litre engine (GT500s had a 428 CobraJet engine, about 7 litres, which is a HUGE behemoth of a motor compared to the 351 Windsor V8 fitted to the film cars)
Basically what the film makers did (and the car's manufacturers are still doing) was take 289 V8 Mustangs, strip them down, put a new engine in, and GRP panels on to make a FAKE/IMITATION/REPLICA, whatever you want to call it.
Shelby made 2048 REAL GT500s, which would fetch at least $300,000 to $400,000 each, and Ford made over 70,000 Mustang Fastbacks in the same time worth between $5-15,000.
What this amounts to, is the same as somebody sticking wide arches and wheels on a 1.4 Puma spraying it Imperial Blue, sticking Tickford badges on it and charging somebody £15,000.

By the way, the original "Eleanor" was a 1973 Mach 1 fastback.

Naa General Lee One ( Dukes of Hazard ) has just come up, http://www.mygenerallee.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, they recon it will make $1,500,000 at auction now theres a real muscle car !

During the series of DOH, the production company used upto 150 Chargers and kept around 10 "best" cars for close ups. Most of the long shot cars were patched up at the end of the day or scrapped if too badly damaged. They also used any Charger they could get using 318, 361 and 383cu in engined cars, but strangely enough none of the (very) expensive 440cu in Magnum engined ones or (very, very, very) expensive 426cu in Hemi powered cars.

There used to be one of the original "best" cars in the "Cars of the Stars" museum in Keswick until it was sold last year (museum not car).
