Have been looking at getting 16" alloys for the puma but it looks like (even though ebay and alloy websites say they fit) they are et40. Puma has et 34.

for eaxmple:
Brand New 7x16" Dare Madisson Gunmetal Polished Special Offer Alloy Wheels. Fitments available 4x100 et40, 4x108 et40. - http://www.alloywheels.com/7x16_Inch_Dare_Madisson_Gunmetal_Polished_Special_Offer_Alloy_Wheels_Only" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16-Dare-Madisson-Gunmetal-Polished-for-Ford-Puma-97-to-01-Alloy-Wheels-Tyres-/380589952806?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Rims_Car_Wheels_ET&hash=item589cedcf26" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

No doubt a few people on here have 16's on their puma so was looking for advice on what rim width (6, 6.5j or 7j) and offset I should be looking for. Stud diameter should be 108 i am guessing.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

I would be aiming for the SAME offset, ie. radius of turning the front wheel. Have a look http://www.willtheyfit.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, or http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Wheel-Offset-Calculator" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for better understanding. The axis that goes through the wheel at its attachment point to the hub (ie offset) is basically a rotation axis for the wheel itself when entering a curve. I don't jnow the specific term in english for that, but it is very important parameter established after many tests during development. I would aim for that value, or the closest to it I could get.
As far as the rim width goes, I would try to be as close to the original (which is 6") as possible, for the same reasons. Also, the car is more nimble if you don't overdo it with the tyre size(s).
Reducing ET basically widens the track which should bring you more stabilty and better direction holding, but also puts more strain on your wheel bearings.....

I put a set of Fiesta Zetec alloys on mine to get it through an MOT. Was either re-tyre the old scraggy 15's i had on there initially, or buy this set. Offset is way out there though at 52.5 so i've had to rectify with spacers. Still rubs on full lock at the front and looks way too slim at the rear. Need a set of original millie wheels ideally but with my other half having a baby soon, other things need to be considered.

It has been said that 17's look the part but affect the handling whereas 16's look the part and keep the handling as close to as 15's.
