After a very long deliberation, due to my impending house move i have decided to sell my track Puma "Koggi".
Its a 1999 V reg. low mileage (76,800 miles) 1.7 LUX model in Black which in my ownership has only done about 750 trouble free miles. I have spent a lot of money on it to get it to what it currently is. Being in my early 50's I wanted a track car that performed well but still had a level of comfort for driving to and from the track, so to this mind i modified it in the following way:
ST150 caliphers with MTEC grooved discs and mintex 1144 pads - give superb braking and never experienced any brake fade whatsoever - standard rears - no need for any kind of mods on those.
Stainless steel brake lines.
EIbach lowering springs over standard dampers with new front top mounts - car corners nice and flat, possibly dives a little more under heavy braking but still totally stable. This still allows for a decent ride on the wonderful roads we have today without being coilover crashy!
Powerflex bushes fitted allround including front antiroll bar.
Front top and lower, and rear OMP strut braces - tighten everything up nicely.
20mm alloy rear hub spacers.
15" Escort GTI 5 spoke Alloys (mint condition) shod with Nankang NS2R tyres - seriously well impressed with these tyres - warm up quickly and retain the heat - also great in the wet (would you believe) as a soaked Oulten Park proved leaving a Honda S2000 for dead!
Engine wise - pretty much standard apart from:
Full Mongoose cat back Stainless exhaust system
Silicon MAF to Inlet pipe
Modified Air Box with direct air feed from behind front grill.
Serviced with new quality plugs/leads
New battery fitted.
Runs sweet as a nut
Interior wise:
2x Brand new Corbeau ClubSport Bucket Seats (XL width) Standard width seats ideal if you have a size 30 or under waist and no I am only a 34" waist! - Both are fitted onto slide rails on custom seat mounts so my other half could drive on track too! Fitted low in the car for a better view as well lower centre of gravity.
2x New 4 Point Harnesses with quick release buckles, shoulder pads correctly fitted into the car.
Dished 3 spoke leather steering wheel giving a great comfortable driving position - much better than a standard Puma.
Rears seats removed but have left door panels in again to make it a better drive - the weight of these would make very little difference to performance. Straps in rear to secure a spare wheel if required.
Additional 12v outlets to run cameras, satnavs, track computers etc...
There is also a camera bar fitted behind the seats for a GoPro style camera with gives a great view.
Being the LUX version it has the front heated screen (so useful), Radio/CD player and Aircon which works and yes i have used it while on track - makes no difference to the performance but saves you from getting hot and bothered!
Exterior:
Standard apart from the graphics which can easily be removed, slight surface rust on rear arches, but totally solid underneath. I have owned a lot of Pumas over time and this is the best underneath, always found the older models to have less rust than the younger ones for some reason.
Side window deflectors fitted which work well.
Looks the part and sits on the track great as the photos show below.
Selling for considerably less than the cost of the parts i have put on it.
Have a set of 16" White OZ wheels, recently refurbished with 205/45/16 Toyo Proxes T1R tyres on them - done less than a 1000 miles - which could go on instead of the GTI Alloys/Nankang Tyres or will sell separately.
Also have a set of front/rear leather seats with Puma Logos on them which can go in lieu of the Corbeau Seats and i will adjust the price accordingly or again sell separately
There is a primed rear spoiler which i didnt get time to fit, available for sale as well.
I have a set of proper stud spacers which again didnt get time to fit which i will sell.
This car is not an out and out top performance track car but it could be made that way by stripping it out further, putting coilovers on etc... but then it is not a bag of nails either! It is a good solid low mileage car that has good performance and can be used on the road comfortably as well as giving it some stick around a track. It was used last year for a couple of weeks as my daily commute, it was great fun inspiring confidence into the corners with the tyre and brake combination. All this work has been carried out by myself since January last year and is still as new as the mileage shows. As i started this tale off it is a very reluctant sale but it will not get the use as the new property i am buying requires a lot of work so will not get the opportunity to enjoy it.
Priced at £1450 but open to sensible offers - it owes me over £2000 plus many hours of labour - so if you want a car you can just get in and enjoy on the road or track then this is a good start.
