Hey guys, I know you guys recommend the halfords HB3 Extreme brilliance bulbs for replacing the dim standard bulbs, great advice! :eek:k:

I was browsing the bulb section in halfords today and i saw a whole range of what they call 'Ultra' Brilliance bulbs, offering 120% extra brightness over standard, so an extra 30% for an extra £5 over HB3 Extreme brilliance.

Anyone else know or have experience of these bulbs?

p.s. it's worth mentioning these 'Ultra' bulbs don't appear when you put Puma into the car details on the website, have to be searched manually.

Sparx has got some in hers; reckons they're good. Not been out long enough to gauge longevity, though.

I've just put done Osram Nightbreakers in my Focus and they seem really good and at £12.99 a pair (H7 fitment) much better value

just bought halfords top end bulbs hb3's think there ultra brilliaNCE 30 QUID EACH ridiculous but i got half price .....

and to be honest not worth money lights are crap only good upgrade is going to be HID conversion

For those of us that want to obey the law, though, the Halfords bulbs are amongst the least worst you can get; Puma headlights are pants - you get used to it.

You might want to make sure your lights are clean and as scratch free as possible so as to pass as much light without dirt or dispersion though scratch refraction.

lights are fine no scratches etc ... and yes their pants but as severla people on here run HIDS thik its best option.. i know it illegal to use them but cops are not going to pull u if you get sensible 4300k or 5000k hids and also mot stations wont fail you as long as light pattern ok as they cannot look or remove things to find faults on mot..

i know they are bad cos they r illegal but ive never driven a car with lights so bad ... my mk2 escort was better and my sierra i drive now are like rally lights compared to pumas hahah

It's less about the MOT and more about the invalidated insurance in an accident I'd be concerned about.

very unlikely in a crash there gonna check ya headlight bulbs but i understand what your saying and its perfectly understandle to have your concerns

I think as a public forum, no-one is going to back you to fit illegal lights.

What you do privately is up to you, and you run the risk, if you fit them.

:)

Well today i got a pair Ultra bulbs and tested them down a dark country road near where i live, they're certainly a good improvement over the standard bulbs and Philips ones mine had, and to be honest they're good enough to replace the dipped bulbs but probably not much difference than Extreme brilliance for Main beam.

Even a pair of candles would be an improvement on standard bulbs!! ;p

ive had hids in mine 4300k and 6000k and didnt like 6000k ones 4300k are better and they arent illegal yet it depends on how the bloke who does your mot judges your beam pattern, but my mate gave me some of these bulbs and they are really good for a non hid bulb

If they're not illegal then they should be, I've list count of how many times I've been blinded by people with aftermarket HIDs

in projectors like the puma they are fine but in a standard headlight they aint the beam pattern is all over the place so they will fail, if i remember right the gov guidelines say when hids are fitted with auto levelling and headlights washers they must work so the guy who does my car says it doesnt say they have to have them fitted, it just says when fitted. its the tits who put them in standard headlights are the ones who will get them banned completly.

The legal requirement is:

"The headlamp unit (outer lens, reflector, bulb) shall be type approved to ECE 98 and be "e-marked" to demonstrate this. That can only be done by the headlamp supplier - Hella, Valeo etc. who must test the headlamp in an independent laboratory."

The Puma headlamp unit is not type approved to ECE 98.
