3mm spacers on my 17's with et38 offset + bigger brakes which helps lesson the rubbing more so I would go for 5mm spacers.

These coilovers are superb. They are firm but not too harsh and it handles like it's on rails. I'm not sure how much it's been lowered by as I left that to my mechanics descretion, but I would guess at about 40mm. The AP coilovers really are good quality, and this is reflected by the reviews...
