Following on from a comment about people joining simply to post an advert, I was wondering what people considered the best places and methods to sell a car.

Previously I have only sold 3 of the cars I've owned. (One got written off, one traded in, and two sold to my Dad)

The first was through an advert in the local rag (£50 spares or repair as it was an MOT failure).
The second also sold through the local paper - though it was also advertised in the Autotrader.
The third went via eBay.

The first 4 cars I've owned were bought from dealers. The others were either after spotting an advert in the car window, through Auto Trader or eBay.

So, what have you used? Which worked the best/worst? How much did you pay for the advert?

I know there must be some gems of cars hidden away online on sites that most of us probably haven't heard of, so share if you know of any. ;)

Advertise every where you can imo.

Local papers
AutoTrader (and/or similar i.e. http://www.usedcartrader.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
eBay
Car window
Forums
Shop windows i.e. newsagents and supermarkets (where applicable)

AutoTrader appears to be the dearest although I can't quite remember how much it cost on eBay following auction end.

eBay worked well but was for a bargain bucket car anyway.

I've also sold 2 cars to people I know and had 2 insurance loses.

http://www.pistonheads.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Busy turnover of cars and free. :eek:k:

I haven't yet sold a car privately - all my previous shed's were part-ex'd . I maybe using Pistonheads at some point, if this FRP ever materialises.
