Peculiar one this, after a cold spell and a few weeks of being static the display on the OE radio was blank whilst the unit appeared to work perfectly (other than standard volume control woes).

I placed my finger on the display and accidentally, due to a bump in the road, felt like I'd applied a left-to-right (or vice versa) movement to it.

It then reappeared with a perfect display.

That does sound odd, a bit like the contacts at the back of the LCD needed warming up. Never seen one opened up so not sure where they are connected.

The facia of the Ford OEM radios has a small connector on the head unit, with a ribbon type cable that goes into the facia. Once the radio is removed from the dash, the facia can easily be removed to inspect the connection, held on with some small torx screws.
