Edd China is no more on Wheeler Dealers, replaced by Ant Anstead, further details here if required: http://www.discoveryuk.com/press-release-210317/

You would imagine that this must be because of the Brewer and certainly I couldn't last more than 2 hours max in his company. But no, listen to the tall man explain it all himself -

...so, no more flatting off with a Scotch pad, quick wipe of pre-paint, golfball of paste to a pea of hardener or spray over with stone-chip for us.

Not that I used to watch it mind. :teary:

Hmmm, so Velocity dialled things down and seems Brewer did a Hollywood and stayed with the money while Edd's more of a Mary Berry and sticking with his principles  Good for him, though his presenting style lacks a little for me it's certainly better than Brewers "yell at the camera" approach. So, Fuzz & Tim, over to you boys....

I still like car SOS but there does seem to be less of Fuzz fixing things and more of Tim dicking about now.

Developments - it would appear that post-China, Mike Brewer has had death threats as a result!

So, Edd posted this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umWmzN1MqWs

...and the Brewer talks about it here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykw8ixA985U

It seems Edd's exit is a bigger story than we thought. Donald 'Small Hands' Trump can't stop talking about him - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDrfE9I8_hs and it turns out that even Hitler was a fan of Wheelers Dealers. Hold out your hand, you've just bought a YT MkII vid - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpBzrChs4fE

Don't think I'll be watching Wheeler Dealers anymore. For me Edd was the only good thing about it, but it had become very tiresome lately, being based in the US and doing the same old cars that all the other American shows do. And Mike had become super irritating, so perhaps it was time for a change...

I look forward to seeing whatever Edd does next. Car shows do need an engaging presenter alongside the serious mechanical stuff, as let's face it, it would be dreadfully dull otherwise! Car SOS is still the best show all round I think - even my wife doesn't mind watching it..

Did anyone watch the new Wheeler Dealer episode tonight? Must admit I wasn’t expecting much after Edd leaving. Mike Brewer is still definitely very irritating but, I thought Ant Antstead was pretty good and I quite enjoyed the technical detail.

It helped that that the first car was an Escort Cosworth, similar vintage to the Puma and much more interesting than the usual tiresome American fare. Maybe too much to live up to, but I hope the rest of the series is as good.

Hi Will
I take it that was on a Sky channel? Ant does seem to be a good guy but I think He's more used to creating one off specials rather than restoring run of the mill cars (I would love an Escos though). If you really listen to Brewer it's all about the money and not the cars, not a lover of classic cars, just a dodgy dealer and that's where the program falls down.

Hi Barry yes it was on the Sky Discovery channel. They both seemed extra enthusiastic about the escort cosworth which helped.

Yeah you’ve got it. Mike seems more interested in the money than anything else, but strangely when it comes to selling cars on the show, he never seems to negotiate too hard. All the car dealers ive ever known have really played hardball - maybe it’s just an act for TV. But nice that he is interacting on Facebook

Keen to see what Edd does next

Will

The only thing I wasn’t sure about was the honesty of it. Bearing in mind it’s one of only 12 road legal Ecos in the USA, did the guy really buy back his own car?? Or was it just a ruse for a halo car for the series?

And on a side note, not a fan they’ve now formally made it an American show as everything is done in dollars, and the purist geek in me would have preferred it left standard.

the show is owned by an American company velocity which explains that

and if the previous owner did buy it back, he just basically paid for work that no one else could do

or as you said used his car to make a mark got all the work done and paid them for labour and parts

Yeah I think so much on TV isnt what it appears and is scripted to some degree. Was good to see them do the escort though. Will probably switch off when back to the American cars.

Gas Monkey garage is similarly entertaining but they do have the same dull cars over & over. Annoys me when they slag off European cars, which are generally more interesting, handle better, and can turn corners. Once they butchered a Jag with a fork lift seemingly just for comedy. No taste.

thats americans for ya! anything with a v8 and rear wheel drive!

but that jag was a proper rust bucket!! dunno how anything was salvaged off that!
