Hi, just wondered if anyone can recommend a garage that can do a cambelt change on my 1.7. I've had some crazy quotes by ford main service centers, like 460 pounds, too much for me. Im willing to travel a fair bit with friends and family i could visit while its being done. Just need to trust a garage and not be ripped off. Any recommendations would be good. Cheers.

This. Probably one of the best independent Ford specialists anywhere. Ask for Richard, tell him Rob from Reading with the Magnum Grey sent you.

You will need to leave it with them overnight though; they will only do it with the engine stone cold.

They're not cheap though. Pretty sure it wasn't far off main dealer rates when he did mine. At least you know it's done right though - the moment you step into their spotless workshop and Cosworths dotted about you'll know you've gone to the right place.

Thanks Rob that is great to know I will be giving them a call to see when they can do it and how much. I didn't want to leave it to chance by going to a local garage as I know it can go wrong if they don't have the skills or right tools. Thanks for the recommendation. Neil

I had mine done at Pumabuild and it was pretty reasonable money from memory.

They've worked on a few over the years:

Thanks everyone, where is pumabuild located? Ihad my mot yesterday on the puma i bought a week ago and i had spent the whole week making sure it was mechanically up to scratch, hard week off work but it runs really well and bodywork now is pretty good. The only think it failed on was some rust on the front and rear seatbelt anchor points that is being welded better on mon for between 100 and 150 pounds, not bad i thought. Can't wait to be on the road!

As you're in Dorset, you can't really go wrong with Tremona. I wouldn't go all the way to Pumabuild - despite the name they don't really do much with Pumas these days.

Well it's been a busy few weeks working with the puma and I have to thank you again for your recommendation to go to tremona garage, what a great place and genuinely nice bunch of guys, thanks again Rob, I mentioned your name and previous puma work and Richard remembered. Really knowledgeable and have done a great job. Initially went in for cambet kit including tensioner, rocker cover gasket, alternator drive belt and idler, water pump and coolant change but ended up being a bit of trouble for them as previous poor work had ment that 2 engine cover bolts had to be carefully drilled out so as not to snap the manafold mount place, retap all threads, also one plug lead was screwed and not connecting to spark plug, all plugs were totally screwed and soaked in oil due to ineffective gasket.
Several hours and new parts and bolts it's running quietly and really smoothly, a new lease of life!

coupled with the new suspension shocks and front wishbones, bushes and anti roll bar links it is finally ready to drive for a while with hopefully nothing major to do!

Anyone that needs a ford specialist that actually cares and is interested in your vehicle could do alot worse than pay tremona a visit.

Need to get my cam belt done too in the next year - this has made up my mind. Will definitely go to Tremona although I'm a good 50 miles away. Thanks all
