Im 20, dont have any claim bonus but ive also made 0 claims myself, live in a good postcode area, been driving for 3 years, and ive got my insurance renewal coming and i want it in my own name but im getting quotes for 1700 for a puma! Thats like double what i paid for the car! What are other 20 year olds paying to insure these. These are not even fast cars! or expensive to repair and i dont hear of many getting stolen too because theres not much money to be made on them.

Can anyone recommend me a good insurance company and when i say good i dont mean the Admiral Group lol!

Thanks, Reece..

To be fair thats probably about right.

unless youve got named driver experience and are with a company that recognises it, then they will treat you the same as someone with 0 experience at age 20.

Try a company called 'insure the box' it who my FRP is with. You do have to have a box installed into your car but for me on the FRP with 0 no claims bonus, 3 points, living in the middle of nowhere and being 25 it cost a grand sum of £525

only problem with insure the box is it penalises you for harsh acceleration or braking and driving on higher risk roads eg fun roads.

So if you like a nice country road drive in an FRP regularly then i doubt your driver performance will score well which will effect your renewal premium.

I wonder if their acceleration and braking thresholds have any relevance to the vehicle being driven? I doubt it so its probably set that heavy acceleration in a shit box 1.0 triggers the box, so that even moderate acceleration in a sporty car will trigger it.

Sure if youve got a cheap small engined car it might work, but not a performance car if you intend to have a bit of fun. even legally within the speed limits.....

£1700 for a puma sounds about right, my son (22) was paying £3000 for a Saxo vts, changed that for a deisel Escort van and was still paying over £1500 :-(
Sorry.

Sorry to hear that, Ive been with Elephant and then i got a multi car with Admiral and i pay peanuts.

Warren I can understand what your saying, but the way Im looking at it is you don't have to renew the policy with them, none of the insurance companies now days reward you for loyalty so once you've got the years no claims sod off somewhere else

I really don't understand the point of these threads. Yes insurance is expensive. Yes, if you're young it's going to cost more. Yes, if you don't have any NCB, it's going to cost more still. Yes, premiums have all shot up over the last few years.

If you want cheap insurance, get a 1 litre box instead.

Have a look here you may find some tips that may be of some help

Add your mum as a named driver on the policy that may bring it down, it did for me

Sounds about right, im a new driver at a young age of 33 and mine was about 1500.00 for my thunder

I like the insurance quote I did on a MX5 the other day.

34 years old, 8 years NCB, good area, garaged. The MX5 was a dog-slow 1.6 88bhp late mk1 non-import model. Market value about £1500. After market wheels.

AA quoted over £1100 third party due to the wheels. I giggled and put down the phone...

Is that 4250 right or is it meant to be £250 (£ sign and 4 on the same key)?
