Hi guys

I may have a knackered ecu. its going in to a race electrician soon but im going over some options

my frp simply isnt worth putting £1000 worth of omex etc ecu in plus all the mapping...its a ford, not a classic alfa!!!

but i am thinking of what i can do with a standard ecu...

can the immobiliser, alarm, abs etc be removed?

all it needs to do is run the engine so thats all i want...like a track day ecu

what else does it do / could be removed?

I think this will lead into a massive electrical overhaul of the car with a lot being ripped out; any suggestions please feel free!

I can't say if the immobilizer can be removed as I've neved tried, but its really easy to remove abs, as both abs & none abs ecu's are the same. If you unplug the power to the abs unit, the abs lights won't come on, even when you unplug abs sensors, as all the abs ecu does is earth the bulb in a round about way. So you won't have the annoyance of the ABS lights if you remove it, you'd just have to re-route the brake pipes from it. I know he may not be your favourite person in the world, but Alan Farmer has some pretty trick software that I've never seen before that can rip the raw data from an ECU and he can edit any part of it, so I see no reason why he couldn't recode it to get rid of the parts you don't want. I could probably rip the raw data, but I don't have anything to translate the coding, so it would just look like a bunch of numbers, kind of like the matrix. I wouldn't know what part was the immobilizer, and even if I did now, I wouldn't know what command to switch it off. Might be worth a call at least.

Its booked in with a race electrician next week, i'll trust him far more than Alan / any 'fix it' garage as its specialist stuff not just 'bolt on goodies'.

At this rate itl be stripped for parts come spring! really getting fed up....if im going to be constantly fixing something i want a stratos replica / 1960s Alfa / 70s Landrover with expedition kit or a 60s splittie camper.
