Are 1.7 ECUs interchangable? How many different types are there.

I have a 98 puma here that needs a new lockset and central locking ecu, do i have to change the main ecu aswell as the key is coded to it for the immobilizer?

Will a lockset, key and ecu from a 01 model fit and work?

Lots of questions there :D

Have a read of this:

The older and newer ones are not interchangeable as there were emmission changes using another HEGO sensor on the '01 models. You can't mix an analogue dashed ECU / wiring / Key with a Digitally dashed one.
(Without lots of headaches anyway)

Execllent mate, just saved me buying the wrong one. Ill have to have a look if it has a DUDE or a MUFF one being a 98.

Is the key coded to the ECU? ie is there a chip and transponder setup fitted?

The locks on this car are fubar and C/L has never worked from the remote so id like to get both working at the same time. Do i need to change the engine ECU too?

The engine doesn't have a separate ECU, it's all on the same one.

The keys are coded to the ECU - the transponder being the little red bit on standard keys.

Have a look here:

Its all on the same one? The C/L and alarm is on the small one in the drivers footwell.
