Must admit I haven't heard anything bad about the 1.6, but most people in the motor trade don't rate the Ecoboost engine.
The 1.6 ecoboost is a turbocharged sigma engine, it's essentially a modern version of the 1.6/ 1.7 engines fitted in the puma.

Which is why it's an ideal choice for a conversion.

The 1.6 ecoboost shares absolutely nothing with the 1.0 or 2.0 ecoboost, all totally different engines.

Does the 1.6 Ecoboost have the cambelt running in the sump ? With the 1.0 Ecoboost I've heard of the belt shredding, partially blocking the oil filter, causing oil starvation and consequent failure of the big end bearings.

No it's a standard dry timing belt.
