As most parts from the escort fit the puma, i am wondering if the escort rs500's front brakes would work for the puma. have anyone used them before??

If not i think i will have to look through the for tis and see what i can find...

RS500 isn't an Escort, that's one of the variations on the Sierra Cosworth.

The Escort Cosworth brakes might fit, as I'm sure I can remember reading about them being fitted to a MK3 fiesta, and they're not to dissimilar to the puma. No idea if they actually would though, and no idea what size discs they use. You'd have to do a bit of research.

i did a bit of research... they are 273mm discs but what i want to know is is it a bolt on mod?? ie the mounting positions and measurements are the same and the bolts are the same size as well?? also do they discs need and spacers or not if the position of the caliper is different from the puma's default settings.

i am referring to the 2WD escort rs 500's 4 pot calipers just to clear up any confusion.

Not Escort, Escort had same brakes as Sierra Sapphire 4x4, RS500 was a limited run Sierra Cosworth, modified by Tickford, which had same brakes as regular Sierra (and Sapphire) 2WD Cosworth, iirc.

I mean i might go to the library and see if there is any haynes manual for the sierra cosworth... might be able to see what the measurements for the brake caliper mounts are.

I am pretty sure they will be standard Ford mountings. I am sure I read either on here, zsoc or Pumapeople of someone doing this recently.

My Microcat is currently playing up, but if I get chance this evening I will look to see if the hub knuckle is the same as regular Sierras.

While in principal 4 pots are the way to go, I don't recall anyone criticising the brakes on the 4x4 when it came out. The 4x4 calipers are very similar to those fitted to early Mondeo V6 / 4x4.

thinking of getting these :)
