I'm having trouble sealing this Toyo manifold. I've been getting fumes in the cabin at no/low speed but it goes away once you're travelling.

Having stripped things down today I can see it's coming out from the bottom of the head/manifold join.

I've bought two gaskets as I'm thinking that might have a better chance of sealing - does anyone have any experience with doing this?

What about sealant/fire putty type stuff - I've always thought it's a bit hot for that area but maybe someone has a recommendation.

Also there's an oil leak, looks like crank seal - is this common? I'm assuming I can change the seal when I'm doing cambelt next year.

Are you sure it's leaking from the crank seal?
It looks like it's coming from higher up

I'm not sure at all! Could be cam seal I suppose. It doesn't seem to be using a lot of any fluid but then I'm not doing many miles

Hi.
I have had oil leaks before which appeared to come from all over the place. It was always the cam cover gasket. Only replace with a genuine Ford if possible.

I know this item is un available but they do keep restocking.

Already done that, twice! Once with an FAI pattern part that was rubbish, and latterly a proper Ford one.

I guess if it was cam or crank seal the timing belt would be all gooey, but it's fine (or was when I changed water pump in the summer).

I might have a check and see what the breather system is like.

You're probably right Simon. Weirdly I don't seem to be losing any PAS fluid. I guess a small leak makes a big mess!

On the exhaust front I used 2 gaskets and some of the copper Permatex sealant MMC recommended. All seems good so far. I've also improved the home-made bracket that supports the lower part of the manifold against the block. As standard, there is no method of attaching the manifold to the block, like the OEM one has.

You are not wrong there but I suppose the system is under a fair amount of pressure which will force fluid through the smallest of holes/gaps
