Hi all

I currently own a Focus ST3, which I really enjoy owning (as does my girlfriend), but due to fuel costs recently and a longer distance to work and back, We have decided that I need to rid myself of the ST3 and was looking at getting a Puma.

I have been reading this forum and it seems as though the Puma would be a good idea, and would just like some feed back from you guys as to what they are run like without mod's and general day-to-day running of Puma's

Thanks

Hi welcome along,

They are a top little motor, handle great, not as quick in a straight line as you are used to, but quick enough. they are reasonably economical and hold a lot of shopping. bit tight if you want to squeeze 4 people in though!

Hi

Thanks for the info, I'm not really looking for straight line power anymore (getting fed up with watching petrol gauge quickly fall towards empty  )

Hopefully should be able to move onto a Puma in the next month

We run two Pumas in the family. One is used by my son as his sole car which includes commuting to work. It has done 54000 miles and apart from parts replaced as regular service items, i.e. cambelt, aux belt, waterpump, plugs and filters it has only required replacement of one HCV and one ABS Sensor. Brakes, clutch, exhaust are all original although tyres have been replaced twice as sets. My own Puma is a bit of a garage queen at 30000 miles and apart from routine servicing and changing budget tyres to Toyos has cost me nothing for unexpected repairs.

Thanks Y0ungn1ck

Hopefully if I get one and it turns out to be a good car, I'll be getting my gf one as she needs to update from her KA, and I'm looking for something that will cost less to repair (Focus had wheel bearing issues which are an expensive Ford fix)

I think in the past 2 hours after looking through this forum I've gone Puma mad! I really want one now, my focus just doesn't seem to excite me anymore lol

Welcome - good luck finding a couple of nice Puma's (Pumaii for plural?...who knows )

I'm sure you'll enjoy the experience and won't regret it. If ever the lack of acceleration becomes an issue due to being used to your ST just take it down some twisties and that issue will disappear in an instance as there ain't many cars other cars that give such confidence and feedback especially given it's age and cheap running costs

Cheers yippeekiay, I'm sure I'll get used to it soon enough after buying one though. I don't really get much time to put pedal to metal in the focus as I seem to travel in rush hour quite often, but who knows. Fingers crossed for a Puma soon

Welcome along :eek:k:

As others have said, the Puma is a nimble little bugger so it's fun in a different way to the Focus.

Welcome mate, I traded back to the Puma after faster machinery. Its a fun little car in any form and thrills come at legal speeds too. I love them

Cheers everyone

Looks like I have now been sold on a puma just need to find one now lol

great little buggys, got mine around 2 years with the plan of keep it for a few months and get rid for an astra coupe, that was 2 years now.ok it had rattles bumps bangs knocks squeeks but its a ford so even gen parts are cheap priced and there pretty easy to work on.a mate had an st focus and he said it had worse mpg than his 360 mountune focus rs and his 400 bhp escort cosworth and the st was standard.

andyhyper - The ST Focus is a proper pain with Fuel Consumption, its a petrolholic. I really don't know why I got one, I just really wanted an ST focus at the time (being young and stupid and carefree - plus I got insurance on the Focus but couldn't on a Fiesta ST).

Now hopefully a puma wil be sitting on my drive, been looking constantly everyday in work now for one that I like, but once I do get one, I'll be putting pics up on here

I'm still averaging over 30mpg since I got mine last October :p

Lol, I get max 26MPG out of mine on warm sunny days  other than that I get just about 30

Savings on tax and insurance are also a positive, smaller wheels mean cheaper tyres too. Its the ideal run around when times are hard. I would be beaning around in another Honda probably NSX or a Focus RS if I stayed with Ford but aside from my missus killing me the cost would be silly and my children would go without any treats

I certainly agree with tax and insurance, and kids do get enough treats lol.

I'm def going to get one, hopefully when I get paid at end of month
