Ford focus door

My boyfriend has a 2.0 ford focus mk1 but the driver door won't open from the outside it has been playing up for a while and now it has given up completely, any suggestions on what the problem could be?

Hi , just a quick one to try , sometimes ford locks seize , this normally happens after a really bad cold spell ie this winter , I find that spraying the lock though the keyhole moving the flap open as the key would, and spaying inside the lock with wd40 using the small straw you get with the can and working the lock a little this might not work straight away but you may find it starting to work over a few days , I hope this helps , please let me know how you get on thanks Baz

sounds like a rod has popped out of place inside the door
