Went to my local Ford dealership today for what i thought was gonna be a very expensive spare key cutting.

I ended up buying a Horseshoe key, (ive got the fob to attatch to it from ebay), supplied with blade cut to my car's locks, for £3.62

Blanks off ebay cost more than that!

Put the key in the ignition,it turned etc..... but wouldnt come out of the lock :(
After messing with the oil and pliers etc they ended up pushing the car into the garage, after taking the ignition barrel out etc they finally got the key out,but then it kept sticking when they put it back in.
after just under 2 hours work, and replacing part of the barrel with another they had laying about in the workshop it was sorted.
Luckily i wasnt charged for anything more than the £3.62 for the key itself.
They said this is common when having a new key cut because of the flap on the ignition barrel gets bent to the same shape as the older worn key, so be warned if you get a key cut elsewhere. Cant imagine Timpsons etc would attempt to free a stuck key.
Never thought id say this about a Ford dealership, but the price was excellent and they were very helpful at sorting it out.

So how did i respond to their generosity and help after a near 2 hour struggle getting my key out?......

Nice one! :eek:k:

Makes a change to hear a pro Ford story.

I remember once the plastic bit for the key for my old escort snapped off leaving the metal part sticking out of the fuel cap at the petrol station. Lucikly id parked with the wheels 100% straight and i could push it straight out of the pumps while i messed for 20 mins with some pliers until i pulled it out. It was a cheap key from timpsons before the days where it had to have a chip in it.

When I worked for Ford this used to be a common problem. After we cut them we used to buff them for a couple of minutes to 'wear' them in but still that would happen about once a month.

P.s. Did you know that any key of that type can lock any door but not unlock it.

Yup - as proved on many-a-meet.

I've never once had an issue with my local Fords

First my starter motor packed in, they not only fitted a scrappy sourced one that I gave them, but when that gave me trouble within a week they took it off, cleaned the solenoid and refitted for no extra charge. Plus they replaced the door card clips at the same time.

I bought an AC code HCV from them (they were well versed in this) which gave up after two months. Replacement supplied on the same day, no hassle.

Went in to order some footmap fixing clips after I broke mine, bloke disappeared out the back and handed my a new pair of clips FOC.

Which Ford garage was that Peter? Put it in our "Servicing & Repairs" section?
