My hubby is borrowing my Puma for work and coming home in the dark. He says he can hardly see where he's going. I said that this wouldn't make any difference to his standard of driving as he never looks at the road anyway, but he insists that sometimes he does so here we go...

I've had a mess with the plastic adjuster things on both headlights and got them up as far as I can get them - slight concern about dazzling others here but these have the brightness of a birthday cake candle so maybe not - I wondered if anyone had any tips about the correct type of bulb to shove in there so that I can at least get the brightness around that of a normal car?

I was advised to buy the Super Brilliance bulbs (I think thats there name) out of Halfrauds.

I was told to wait untill they are Buy one get one free though, as they are quite expensive at around £20 a bulb, but I was shown pictures and they seem to be very bright.

If you're still unsure, and nothing on here really settles you, it might be an idea to just go into halford's and ask someone to point you in the right direction maybe? :)..

Hope I helped, if not, good luck! :D

The Puma is very susceptible to dirty headlamp covers. Cleaning them well before setting out is always a good move.

I experimented once on a journey where I was unlikely to need main beam with screwing the load adjuster around to full down as if the boot had concrete in it, then driving on main beam. I wasn't flashed once.

Using the headlamp adjusters to raise the beam could end you up with an irritating MOT fail.

Bulbs are a HB3 and you'll need 2 for the dipped, and if you do the main beams a further two.

As suggested above, ideally you should the lenses internally too. The plastic has been known to brown off too, in which case a new set of lenses is the only soultion.

If you're buying the Halfords bulbs, you should go for the Extreme Brilliance version, which is up to 90% brighter than standard, as opposed to the Super Brilliance, which is up to 50% brighter.

If you can't wait for the BOGOF offer, you could try the Ring Xenon Max +100%, £15.51 (for 2) delivered:

Note that the HB3 code is also known as 9005

yeah just got some hb3 xenon light bulbs whats best way to fit by unclipping rear casing to headlamp?

Extreme Brilliance bulbs are very good. See this post:

:eek:k:

PS: Halfords says that the main beam bulbs are 9006. That is wrong, they're 9005.

Thank you all for your tips. I think bright bulbs is the way to go here and thanks for the heads up on the MOT failure - will get them adjusted by a pro pre-mot unless anyone knows how to do this and what the MOT specs are.

after reading this post the other day decided to upgrade my headlight bulbs even though i do little driving at night..lol
