had a look and fitted the part in the hope it will cure my overheating problems.

As i was running the engine up to temp with the expansion cap off i noticed the level of coolant rising as it got over 100c to the point it was nearly going to start pouring out.

i fitted the cap back on to stop overflow, seems a bit weird how it would rise like that?

it will rise, leave cap on but dont tighten and allow to warm up to temperature on idle let fan cut in twice then turn of engine allow to cool then check level, this must be done with the temperature control set to hot, refill if requiredwhen cooled down, take for a gentle run for a couple of miles then recheck levels

It will rise as it heats up and expands. The point of the cap being there is that its a sealed, pressurised system.
