Anyone seen these?

Its like a cross between a standard airbox and a cone filter. According to K&N, its guaranteed to improve HP. It seems legit to me, with a box around the filter, there will be less heat getting to the filter, and if the filter is smooth inside, the air will flow better?

Thoughts?

Ive seen videos of them being tested on a rolling road on they got more power when they took the lid off the box! So it seem a bit pointless to me??!!?? Check it out on youtube

perhaps im being silly and missing the point but surely for the cost its got to make more sense to buy a pannel filter and modify the standard airbox?

Yes its just a half way step between the standard air filter and a cone filter. Any airbox will get better results by taking the lid off because its allowing the engine to suck more air in, more freely. But by doing this it is also allowing the engine to suck in loads of crap and dirt too, which is bad...

Some people drill airboxes, some people even just put a pair of tights over the opening and use no filter at all, but these are very 'barry boy' bodge jobs, will end up ruining your engine, not to mention it looks pants. If you've got the money, go the whole hog and get an easy breathing cone filter, they cost more, but work well, but failing that even the K&N panel filter which fits in the standard box will do the job just fine. Just leave the lid on though.

driling an airbox IS NOT a bodge its proven to work, its a cheap way of getting more air into the engine, yes it doesnt look good but it does the job, tights over the opening is a bodge job.
cone filters are good but dont work very well on some cars.
on the puma the best thing to do is a replacent pannel filter and modify the airbox to racing puma spec, its alot cheaper than a cone filter and gets the same sort of results.
its all down to personal choice, and what the driver wants, a cone filter is more about the induction roar.

K&N panel filter supplied & fitted by Tremona garage in Southampton

Thats different to what the OP is saying, he is saying they put a cone filter, in a modified airbox

Glad somebody gets it! Still nobody has tried one so dont know how good they are.

Cant see the point in this, its basicly the same as a pannel filter, so cant justify it. Drilling holes in air box is not going to damage anything as the air still has to go through the filter, it will just need a replacement sooner ;)

and theres plenty you can do to mod the frp airbox.....afterall it is still a box! air doesnt flow well in a box. im planning to 'flow' the airbox with inserts to round off the edges......will see how it works
