Well by law we have to have these done ,But as many of you are aware most M.O.T centres also have a garage tied to them So they can fail your car then charge you for the so called repairs that need doing I'm not saying all do this but I have known this to happen .
So what are your options for a MOT then ? well its quite simple take your car to a local council depot most councils operate MOT centres for their own vehicles also they have to do MOT's for members of the public ..They do not do any repairs on your car they advise you to get what needs doing elsewhere and once you have done that they check to see if have done it then issue you with a new MOT .
I have been using my local Council depot for the last 4 years and only once did my car fail (Driveshaft gaiter on my old Audi) rest of the time my cars have passed

So heres a LIST of your nearest council depot

Hi Sean - this is one of Yip's favourite tips! I'm sure he'll be your best friend now. Surprised he hasn't piped up already, actually.

I knew about this, and would have used my council depot... but my MOT garage is run by a good friend, so I dont worry about spurious fails.

:-D

I did my MOT yesterday not the puma but my daily , first MOT so car shouldn't "fail" in theory plus it has been looked after by the local stealer....... So I tried an MOT center local to me which specialises in MOT's mostly and they have won a few customer service awards , local awards lol

I waited with the car and sat in reception ....

I was shocked how much work was being generated by MOT failures . I was only there for an hour but they were constantly on the phone ringing people up informing the owners of the cars they had failed the MOT for xyz reasons and they could order the parts in and get them repaired the same day and retested .......

I was kind of worried they would find something on my car but it passed and they just mentioned the tyres which on my 4wd it basically eats them every 15k.......

Are MOT tests getting more strict? Maybe because of the changes in MOT tests more cars are failing or was it just a coincidence that I was in reception when these guys were on the phone , but in that hour I didn't hear them ring anyone to say that there car had passed?
