I have just bought a ford puma second hand. Just drove it back home 80 miles. It was fine but a load droning noise was coming from the back with no smells or anything. Like a airplane type noise. What could this be?
Thanks Rach

The sound you describe reads like one of the following:

  • A failing wheel bearing
  • Misshapen tyre(s)
  • A loose wheel nut

I'd check them in the reverse.

Did you collect the mother-in-law on the way home?

If its a loud drone I would suggest a bad wheel bearing.

With some cars, if you turn to move the weight of the car on to the bad side the noise should get louder but get quieter if the load/weight shifts to the other side.
