Hi!
I bought a low mileage 1.7 cat two weeks ago, and I've loved it to bits ever since.
It's a 98 1.7 with 105' kms on the clock.
Yesterday while on a fairly long trip I notices idle was high, about 1500 rpm.
It seemed like it was misfiring and was smoking BADLY out the exhaust.
I was afraid pistonrings, valvestem seals or something in that line had given up.
But while revving it it seemed like it cleared it's throat around 3500-4000 rpm and was it's eager little self again.
While taking off from the gas station I'd stopped, I really ripped through the gears and everything seemed normal again, until I reached 5th and returned to cruising speed. Back to the bronchitis symptoms like before. In other words the fault comes and goes.
Plus the fact I noticed it was literally DRINKING petrol, in the range of 2.5-3 litres/10 kms. (8-10 mpg)
What the H*** is going on??
I'm suspecting AFM, TPS or a faulty Lambda, but I'm new to Puma's and trying to disconnect any of the sensors doesn't really change anything..
Any known issues to the Puma's that sound familiar to the problems I have?
Appreciate any help...
