Removing green filter from Heater control panel??

Is it possible to remove green filter from heater control panel? I've heard that it is possible on some panels (older ones). Is this correct and how do you know which ones are the older ones???
 
It is possible to convert, no idea how though.

Hi

I have done a couple of these conversions and yes, it is possible to convert the older panels as the green 'filter' is removable.

I have some pictures that I will upload to give you an idea as to what the panel is like...
 
Note the shape of the buttons compared to the newer panels:

There are spots of plastic that can be drilled out to allow the front and rear sections to separate:

Once separated you can see this:

Carefully remove the white diffuser so the green filter can be removed:
