Replacing ECU

Hi. I need to replace the ECU on my car. What I'd like to know is whether I need to clone my old ECU into the "new" one, or can I just slap it in knowing that both have the same serial/part number? Thanks in advance.

Just slap it in! You'll need the matching key/ microchip that goes with the ECU to put in your current ignition key in order for it to work in your car though
