I ahve heard about and seen a few youtube vids of the van Aaken turbo kit for the puma I wanna know if anyone here has one and if they are worth getting or of any other turbo upgrades for the standard 1.7 engine

thanx

I believe Van Aaken have now ceased trading. There are a few people who have turbo'd their Puma's though, have a look on here, and also on Pumapeople.com.

Not sure if they are a good way if you want a great deal more power. They use small Garrett turbos running about 5psi which will get you an extra 20-30bhp at best. Granted you can keep it all on standard internals for the cost it doesn't seem worth it to me!

basically a larger turbo running more boost but i dont know what the standard internals can take. gearbox would be ok and driveshafts should be too. an uprated clutch would be a must. superchargers are less harsh but wont be as fast but should see you touching nigh on 190bhp

You would be better getting an engine built for a turbo (with or without one attached to it).

My current project is to stick an Escort RS Turbo engine into a Ka. Lowering the compression slightly and putting a hybrid T4 onto it. Zetec blacktops from a Focus/Mondeo would be good - 2.0L as standard gives you 130-1350bhp and a fairly strong engine that has been turbo'd alot before so there will be a wealth of info on the internet :)

an engine swap would probably cost around 400/500 quid depending on how much work is involved i think

Engines aren't too expensive especially on eBay. The only issues you may have are to do with the immobiliser etc. If you do get an engine you ideally want it with loom and keys which will make life much easier!
