Unlocking Lumia 625

Not sure if any of the tech wizards can assist here?

I'm trying to unlock a lumia 625. I have the codes. I switched the phone off, put sim card in and switched back on but I'm not getting any message up as per the instructions given with the code. It just says there's a sim error and starts the phone normally. I can use most of the features including WiFi. I can't find anywhere to put the codes in. Has anyone experienced this or similar with a lumia?

I take it you're using a SIM card that's not accepted?
