2001 Puma Black 1.7 - with interesting parts - BREAKING

My Puma Black needs a new home. Sadly I think the best outcome is for me to break it. I’ve owned this since late 2008, it was my daily for the first couple of years, however was used by one of my parents since around 2010. Exterior is a bit scabby, rear arches are rough, paintwork hasn’t had a...

    Puma Performance Modification Guide

From a Fiesta Zetec-S, but unless you are suffering from a really stiff rear, i.e. excess oversteer, then I wouldn't bother. Stiffening up the front on a FWD car typically leads to understeer, which you probably don't want.

ST170 rear disc conversion and ABS

Oh, and RE: self-test, until the car does the self-test it doesn't know that you have fixed the issue, so light can't go out until the self-test is done.

ST170 rear disc conversion and ABS

The Escort estate sensors fit better than the Puma ones (and are what was used on FRP), plus the loom exits them at 90 degrees rather than at an angle which makes things easier. Are the tone wheels level against the back of the hub, meaning a consistent gap throughout a full revolution? Tone...

ST170 rear disc conversion and ABS

Firstly you have driven the car at over 15mph for it to do the ABS self-test? The new ABS loom should be for a 95on Escort Estate. The tone wheels must be mounted centrally on the hub. The new ABS sensor hole must line up centrally with the tone wheel. Your gap of 1mm may be slightly too much...

ST170 rear disc conversion and ABS

You will need to put the hubs on a lathe to turn them down a bit to accept it. This is a precision job otherwise it just won't work.

ST170 rear disc conversion and ABS

Firstly this is only for show, there is no noticable improvement in braking performance by fitting discs. You need to machine down the back of the Focus hub to accept the smaller Puma/Fiesta/Escort rear tone wheel, and you need to enlarge the ABS sensor hole, along with drilling and tapping a...

    Many mods = many questions

No problems with changing ECU's, but try to get a TAPE ECU with two key transponders. Otherwise you will have to wait until you get the FRP map put on to get your keys to work. Fitting is easy, drill out 2 rivets holding ECU cage in place, remove cage, unbolt plug from old one, open the plug up...

    Many mods = many questions

Have a read through my project thread, many of your answers are there, however in summary; Yours can be mapped, but an easier option is to swap to a TAPE ECU, this ignores the second lambda and will take the FRP map. It is what I did, and would do again. You can fit the second sensor behind...

    is it a real FRP

I obtained the VIN from another website and ETIS didn't recognise it.

    is it a real FRP

I think the car has been registered outside of the UK, which would explain how it has been re-registered incorrectly.

    is it a real FRP

Most Puma's have Puma R on the slam panel plate. Not seen the Tickford slam panel decal before.

Just fitted new FRP gearbox with LSD & Focus Clutch

Damn, that is some moneys worth! Of course there isn't anything obvious on the diff that says what it is, or the application.

    Focus clutch or not?

I am really confused about your argument. Yes the Focus clutch works, but the Fiesta ST clutch should be better, it is not only rated for more torque, but also more power. You haven't tried the Fiesta ST clutch, but you imply that the Focus clutch is the best thing out there. Someone asks for...

    Focus clutch or not?

If you are happy with it then great, but that doesn't mean it is the best one out there. When I fitted my Focus clutch I did so because I thought it was the "best" (read most capable, durable) OE replacement, had I known about the Fiesta ST clutch at the time then that is what I would have gone...
