Hi

My ABS pump has failed. My question is, when buying a recon replacement, will it need coding to the car? or is it 'plug-and-play'?

Alternatively, if I buy a replacement unit (i.e pump and ECU)... can I take the pump off and just mate that to my existing ABS ECU?

Thanks

If I am not mistaken, ECU is part of ABS pump and can not be separated.
You won't need any coding to the car: after each start it goes through self test culminating with ABS selftest at 20 kph when it makes that noise.
But you will need proper bleeding procedure to be followed with pressure bleeder. If the ABS unit traps air, you will need original diagnostics (unless those nice people at Forscan haven't included that into their product as well; I know they were working on it) to put the pistons in the bleeding position
