Just been to see Cameron's new Avatar 3D...

wow!!...truly like nothing you've ever seen before on screen... wearing the gkasses for 3hrs gets a little tiring on the eyes after a while....

but go do it!....

ace Film!..

I might have to give the 3D a miss (tends to give me a headache within a minute) but this is definitely on my 'want to watch' list.

I bet this will be good on the IMAX in 3D

Looking forward to seeing this, even though watching the trailer left me totally clueless as to what it was about!

A paraplegic ex-marine finds a new life on the distant planet of Pandora, only to find himself battling humankind alongside the planet's indigenous Na'vi race ... Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a war veteran who gets called to the depths of space to pick up the job of his slain twin brother for the scientific arm of a megacorporation looking to mine the planet of Pandora for a valued ore. Unfortunately the biggest deposit of the prized substance lies underneath the home of the Na'vi, a ten-foot-tall, blue-skinned native tribe who have been at war with the security arm of the company, lead by Col. Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang). Because of the planet's hostile atmosphere, humans have genetically grown half-alien/half-human bodies which they can jack their consciousnesses into and explore the world in. Since Jake's brother already had an incredibly expensive Avatar grown for him, he's able to connect with it using the same DNA code and experience first-hand the joys of Pandora while giving the scientific team ... some well-needed protection against the planet's more hostile forces.
On a chance meeting after getting separated from his team, Jake's Avatar is rescued by Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), a Na'vi princess, who brings him into her tribe in order to give the humans a second chance at relating to this new environment. When word gets out of his increasing time with the alien species, Quaritch enlists Jake to do some reconnaissance for the company, as they'd like to persuade the tribe to move their home before taking more drastic measures to harness the treasure hidden below. Yet as Jake becomes one with the tribe and begins to understand the secrets of Pandora, his conscience is torn between his new adopted world and the wheelchair-bound one awaiting him when the psychic connection to his Avatar is broken. Soon battle lines are drawn and Jake needs to decide which side he will fight on when the time comes.

Excellent film. Sightly similar in concept to the Matrix, but I loved it :eek:k:

The 3D effects and computer imagery were very good, stunning in fact. But the film itself was full of stereotypes and highly predictable.... you could see what was coming well ahead of the events themselves.

So for effects, immersion in a fantastic world.... thumbs up.

For drama, characterisation, suspense & plot ...... a definite thumbs down.

Enjoyed it though - on a very simple, entertaining level.

Brian & I saw this last wednesday in 3D.

Fab film, amazing specials effects. An enjoyable film to watch, well worth the extra money to watch in 3D although the glasses do give you a bit of a headache.
When it's released on DVD I'll be buying it.

Went to see it in 3D the other day. It was a completely averaeg film i thought. Apart from the 3D (which i might add was awesome) there was nothing special about the film at all. I found myself getting bored very quickly. Though the 3D effects kept me entertained for a while.

i agree with haggard.

Stunning graphics and a showcase of just how far modern computer special effects have come,

but a weak plot and storyline which ruined it. i was bored less than halfway through.

Sadly a lot of recent films are the same, relying purely on special effects but no intelligent plot! Special effects dont make a good story but can support it. without a good story the film will always be flawed. someone like james cameron should know better!

The film was awesome! It really does make you feel like you're there and at the end you just don't want to leave!! (Well I didn't anyway...)

And I agree.. Definately worth the money and time.. Amazing.
