hey all, ive got my own radio to put in my new Puma but with it baing half the size of the standard ford radio i need a facia adaptor to make it fit the reason im asking is ive had serveral of these in the past that havent fitted well especially in my last corsa socan anyone recommend a good facia adaptor that fits snug? thanks in advance

I think most Facia's for fords come exactly the same, just in different colours, I can't say i've seen many variables on Ebay?..
It should fit nicely, i've got one in mine and it's snug as a bug in a rug!

i bought one of these 6 months ago and it fits perfect never had any problems what so ever

To be honest, none of them are what you'd call a snug fit in my experience. What I did the last time I fitted one was to use some double sided tape of nuclear strength / velco strips to secure it better into the hole.

When it's fitted, try and support the radio at the back of it so it's not trying to drop downwards at the back and so try and pop out the facia adaptor at the bottom.

you cant have fitted it properly mine sits in very snug and doesnt move at all there are clips at the top that hold it in and when the cage from the stereo is clipped in at the sides it shouldnt move at all once headunit is slid back into the cage

Yes PK2010, I know nothing about fitting car stereos as I've only been doing it for 23 years.

might be the fascia or cage you used the cheap one i got off ebay for about £4 stays in.my stereo face is always in/out and it doent move at all

it was a new stereo headunit so maybe the teeth on the new cage grips better holding the fascia in good

its due to the petty size of the tabs on the facias. Its a well known fact with those type of facias.

its a struggle in the puma, worse in a KA and give up if you have an escort.

plus I've fitted MANY stereos and my mates have worked at a motor factors who provided stereo fitting which I helped with.

the facias are simple but effective for filling the gaps. i find the ones with the small tray underneath done offer enough room for wires and the other ones are just simple and do the job they are meant for however i dont like the fact they offer no security what so ever. anyone with an adapter can just pull your stereo out without any keys or screws or anything. my surround is flocked so is built up a little so mine sits nice and snug but before hand it did have movement up and down more so thant side to side but only 2mm at most. making a double din fit in there would be the better fit imo but i havnt tried so i couldnt tell you if it is worth the hassle or not.

thanks for all the advice i hope i can get my radio in some time in the next two week not having an iphone adaptor is killing me modern radio is awful haha

hey all i've finally decided on a fascia im gonna use > Ebay Linky < its what i need for my iPhone adaptor with the little shelve to sit my phone on only problem is its black i want to spray it to match the silver interior does anyone know what colour silver the interior dash is so i can get a matching spray paint?

you can buy moondust silver from halford or ebay for about £10 thats what i used and is a better match than the grey fascia which claim to be silver although the dash is more of an allumium coluor i did post up asking for exact coluor but no one knew
this is what the silver moondust looks like

Or Rover Platinum Silver is purported to be a very good match.

I've got the same adaptor in my Puma, the shelf is very handy, but it is very narrow. My HTC Desire fits in it fine, as did my old Sony Ericsson C902, I can't say whether an iPhone would fit or not. Also, I would say that although the fit isn't great on mine, due to how the plastic of the dashboard varies from car to car, it might be perfect on yours. If it doesn't quite stay put, judicious use of strong velcro will stop it moving. ;)

I know this digging up an older thread...but i have found the most secure way to mount an after market radio is to make the radio and cage 'as one' using a hot glue gun to bond them together...

then on the inside the facia clips...also put some hot glue here, which stops them from snapping....

Insert the facia and cage as one and you'll then find that you can't locate the top support rail as the cage is in the way...

well, to solve this little issue simply use a small cutting tool (small air powered grinder ideal!) to cut down a channel down the top middle section of the cage...and hey!..you can insert the radio in and out the cage with the ISo adapter AND cage fixed in place... the cage will looked a bit 'hacked' but will be totally fine when all pushed back into place...

Final touch is to check the height of the support at the back so the radio sits properly and the front... best way to check this (and tidy up wiring) is remove the speedo clocks trim where the heater buttons are...and you'll have a very clear view of whats going on back there....

Mine doesn't move at all now...i remember having a squeek a couple of years back when it wasn't sitting on the rail correctly...drove me MAD!..

Regards

Chris
