Thought I would start a project thread with the Puma. Progress will be slow but I will keep it updated as and when I can.

So to start with

Purchased a 1700 Ford Puma on February 13th 2013 for £500.00 with 79458 Miles on the clock.

Here are some pictures of the car to start with

Has a couple of issues to sort out.

Tax is out end of February
MOT is due March 1st
N/S/R Wheel cylinder is leaking
Cambelt change due
Oil Filter leaking
Slight missfire under load
Front crank oil seal is leaking
O/S/F window sticking/Slow to operate
Tracking is slightly out
N/S/F Door has a rust spot
O/S/F Wing has a rust spot

As you can see there is plenty for me to be getting on with!

Not bad for £500 :eek:k:

I am quite happy with it. I had a focus that I used as a run about that I sold on and it is definately an upgrade!!

Will be doing the oil change on it tomorrow and also replacing the plugs and giving it a good clean

Been busy with the car today

Managed to get the oil changed today

Random pic of the oil getting drained

Oil was quite black to be honest, I seem to have fixed the oil leak from the oil filter with the new filter.

Took a quick engine pic to

Also replaced the spark plugs, air filter and cabin filter to. I had a slight misfire under load which seems better since replacing the spark plugs.

Lubricated the O/S window runner as the window was sticking

Noticed I have a grating noise from the N/S when turning, I have checked the Spring and it seems ok. Might have to have a good look at the strut top bearing on that side.

I also noticed that I seem to have a noise pulling away at speeds of 20mph for a fraction of a second. Its hard to describe the noise, it sounds like a Grating/Rattling noise from the Passenger side.

Wipers have been replaced to!

Lastly gave the car a quick clean

I definitely have rust coming though on bottom of both doors which I will attend to shortly and also the O/S/F Wing

I have discovered that since washing the car yesterday my passenger front mat is soaking wet. There seems to be a lot of condensation on the inside of the windscreen to.

Grating noise could be the spring around brake pipes rubbing on the wheel. (mine does this but I still haven't gotten around to reseating it properly).

The damp inside will likely be the famous bulkhead grommet. Have a search on the site and you'll find LOTS of information on this!

Yeah just pulled the carpets up earlier on the passenger side and it is soaking! The grommet sees to be located properly though?

Yeah, it's usually around where the wires go through it rather than where the grommet seats in the bulkhead. Slap some sealant around. Having said that mine still isn't dry 2 years on and the mould is gaining ground....

Most likely your firewall... use the search function.. by now theres some many threads on it, they shouldnt be hard to find.

Been having a look through it today, Looks like a job for next weekend!

SO basically seal the Grommet, anywhere else that I can get to without ripping half the car to bits?

Its most likely the firewall if your grommet is in place... so no, dont seal the grommet. Just need to get your head under the dash and seal any cracks, edges or splits. Lift the carpet and look at the state of the underlay, it will give you and indication as to where most likely the water is coming from.
This is a very common thing especially in winter. I stepped onto a frozen lake once when i got into my car a few years back. You can imagine my surprise when you put that first foot in and it gives way...
